You have to twist the rod left and right to pull on the fish and keep it in the middle of the screen. It essentially works great, except for one thing. The only problem I have is with the fishing pole. Bass, channel cat, flatheads, bullheads, freshwater eel, black and white crappie, walleye, trout, huge sturgeon, stripers, white bass, muskie, pike and many others I missed. The graphics are good, the gameplay is even better, and most of all I was uber impressed with how many species of fish are on this game. I must say, hands down, this is one of the best new age fishing games I've played, probably THE best. I wasn't a huge fan of other Rapala games, so I was a little hesitant at first. I purchased this right as it came out, mainly because I saw the fishing rod peripheral.
